Community Service

Rescue Ministries Inc. was founded over 22 years ago in the parks of Brooklyn, N.Y. by Rev. Yolanda Valentin-Aviles.  It has grown and developed into several programs, such as a soup kitchen and food pantry, networking with partnerships with Senior Centers, offering Flu shots, nutrition workshop, blood pressure & HIV pre-screening, and SNAP pre-screening, along with off-site referrals just to name a few. Situated in the heart of Port Richmond on Staten Island, in New York; all programs are designed to serve the needs of the community at large in diverse and meaningful ways.

Each month we assist over 1,500.  Families with groceries and we serve over 400 plates of hot food.  Each year we receive and distribute tons of food, clothing, Toys 4 Tots, and other necessities from our faith-based emergency feeding and nutrition programs.  The glue to these successful programs is the partnerships with our generous donors and our dedicated volunteers.

Feeding hungry bellies is wonderful, but how much better is feeding their hungry souls! So we have dedicated ourselves to feeding both physically and spiritually…similar to the way Jesus coupled Word and deed by feeding those who came to hear Him.

These programs are implemented by the Community Outreach Department of Rescue Ministries under the direction of Rev. Placida Espada and operate on site on a weekly basis every Tuesdays and Thursday from 11:30 – 1:00 PM.

For I was in need of food, and you gave it to me: I was in need of drink, and you gave it to me: I was wandering, and you took me in; I had no clothing, and you gave it to me: when I was ill, or in prison, you came to me. ~Mat 25:33,36
